Rogers & Willard Breaks Ground on New Dauphin Island Sea Lab Dormitory

DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. — Rogers & Willard is proud to serve as the general contractor for the Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s newest campus expansion—a modern, multi-story dormitory that will significantly increase housing capacity for students immersed in marine science education and research.

The Sea Lab held its official groundbreaking on November 18, marking the start of a project designed to support the institution’s fast-growing programs. With year-round activity from K–12 programs, undergraduate interns, and graduate researchers, DISL’s current housing often reaches full capacity. The new dormitory will relieve that pressure by adding dedicated space for undergraduate students and long-term visiting interns.

A Facility Built for Learning, Discovery, and Growth

The upcoming residence hall is designed to accommodate approximately 90 students and will offer affordable, on-campus housing for participants in DISL’s immersive marine science programs. Its location places students steps away from classrooms, laboratories, and fieldwork opportunities on the Gulf Coast.

Construction is now underway, with Rogers & Willard overseeing all phases—from site preparation through final delivery. The facility is expected to open in spring 2027.

A Continued Commitment to Coastal Alabama

This project reinforces Rogers & Willard’s long-standing commitment to building spaces that strengthen our region. The Dauphin Island Sea Lab serves as a cornerstone of STEM education, environmental research, and workforce development in coastal Alabama. We are honored to help create a living environment that supports those missions for decades to come.
