Building the Future While Preserving the Past: The Chighizola House
For Rogers & Willard, some projects are about more than construction. They are about helping preserve the places that make Mobile what it is.
The recently completed restoration of the Chighizola House, a historic Greek Revival home dating to the 1850s, is one of those projects.
Located in Downtown Mobile, the Chighizola House is a remarkable piece of the city's history. Restoring it required a careful balance between preserving its historic character and preparing the home for a new chapter. From its original brick construction and heart-pine floors to historic doors, plaster and architectural details, the goal was never to make the house look new. It was to honor what was already there.
That is where Rogers & Willard's experience in historic restoration became especially important.
Our team worked carefully to preserve the character and craftsmanship of the home while incorporating the modern systems and improvements necessary to bring it back to life. Every decision required an understanding that we weren't simply renovating a building — we were working on a piece of Mobile's story.
Now, the community has the opportunity to experience that work firsthand.
The Chighizola House is serving as the 2026 Mobile Bay Magazine Inspiration Home, opening its doors throughout August for tours and a series of lectures celebrating Mobile's architecture, history and design.
For Rogers & Willard, being part of the Inspiration Home is an exciting opportunity to share the finished project with the community and showcase what thoughtful historic restoration can accomplish.
A Building Worth Building Back
At Rogers & Willard, We Build Community.
Sometimes that means building something entirely new. Sometimes it means giving an important piece of the past a future.
The Chighizola House is a little bit of both.
We invite you to experience the restoration for yourself and see why preserving Mobile's history is an important part of building its future.
The Chighizola House is open for tours through August 30, 2026.
